10th Grade Checklist

Fall Semester

  • Take the PSAT in October of this year to give you practice. Speak with your school college counselor about test dates, descriptive questionnaires, registration fees, and registration fee waivers.
  • Review your 9th and 10th grade class schedules with your school college counselor to make sure that you have taken, and are taking, the college preparatory courses required for admissions to a selective university.
  • Continue visits to local colleges and universities with your family and friends.
  • Maintain active membership in extra-curricular activities and seek opportunities for leadership.
  • Maintain an “A” or “B” grade point average throughout this year because many universities use sophomore and junior year grades to determine college eligibility.
  • Take and pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).

Spring Semester

  • Take the SAT Subject exams in June in world history, foreign language, biology, etc.
  • Start a personal file or portfolio of college materials and information.
  • Participate in academic enrichment programs.
  • Consider taking a UC-approved community college course this semester and/or during the summer.
